In the Northern Hemisphere, Winter is the time when the sun is lowest in the sky. This means that there are fewer hours of daylight and it gets dark earlier. The Winter Solstice, which falls on December 21st or 22nd, is the shortest day of the year. Winter is also the time when many animals hibernate or migrate.
