This holiday was established as a way to remember the end of World War I, though Veterans Day honors U.S. veterans from all wars throughout history. The Veterans Day National Ceremony in Washington, DC is one tradition and has been held at Arlington National Cemetery since 1971. Interestingly, Veterans Day wasn’t even granted a national holiday status until May 26th of that same year.
