Venom is a comic book character created by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in Venom: Lethal Protector (May 1993), and was created by writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley. Venom is a Symbiote, a sentient alien, with a liquefied form that requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the Symbiote endows its enhanced physical strength and other abilities upon the host. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that human takes on the identity of Venom. The Symbiote has some telepathic abilities and can communicate by using mental waves. The Symbiote may also successfully disable Spider-iconic Man’s Spider-Sense when it has been bonded to him, making Venom one of the very few people who can catch Spidey off guard.
