President Grover Cleveland was the only President to ever serve two non-consecutive terms, as President from 1885-1889 and then again from 1893-1897 – making him the 22nd and 24th President of the United States. President Cleveland’s nickname was “Uncle Jumbo” and it resulted from an accidental mixup during his first campaign while stranded on a riverboat. It is said that everyone had been calling him “Uncle Sam” but someone jokingly called him “Uncle Jumbo” instead, and it stuck! President Cleveland was also the first President to get married in the White House when he wed Frances Folsom in 1886.
