FACTS!
- Completely Different Title: American licensors in the 1990s were forced to use a number of workarounds due to copyright issues with the original Arsène Lupin stories outside of Japan, including AnimEigo, using Rupan the Third or Streamline Pictures simply calling him “The Wolf” in the dub and promotional materials. When Arsène Lupin entered the Public Domain, the problem was solved. This is the reason why the correct name is used for everything Lupin-related that was released in North America after the 1990s.
- It was still a problem in France as of 2012. Edgar was Lupin’s name there. (The 5th anime series, which is set in France, was also marketed with the Lupin name there. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine appears to be the first French release to use the Lupin name.)
- The various shows would have unique subtitles in Italy.
- The titles of some of the specials are entirely different in English and Japanese.
