Have you heard of Komi Can’t Communicate? It’s a new anime about Komi Shouko, a high school girl with extreme social anxieties who can only communicate by playing with her hair. Despite her shortcomings, she sets out on a mission to make 100 friends in order to become normal like everyone else. Komi Can’t Communicate teaches valuable lessons about accepting oneself and understanding those with social anxieties. At the same time, it’s just a cute and enjoyable show to watch! Not only does Komi look adorable with her various hairstyles, but the rest of the characters are lovable as well. I highly recommend checking out Komi Can’t Communicate, whether you’re a hardcore anime fan or someone just looking for something light-hearted to watch. It’ll definitely leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
There is some, but not much, romance.
Slice-of-life and humor anime show frequently feature romantic themes, even silly ones like Don’t Toy With Me, Ms. Nagatoro! Possibly do this Komi Can’t Communicate features some overtly romantic elements, but they are not nearly as strong as in-depth shojo and josei romances.
Although there is a fundamental male-female friendship in Komi, there are only a few modestly romantic moments, so anime viewers hoping for a heartwarming tale of star-crossed lovers may be let down. This television series isn’t precisely Maid-Sama! or Fruits Basket.
