Ivysaur, known as Fushigibana in Japan, is a dual-type Grass/Poison Pokémon. Ivysaur is Venusaur‘s pre-evolved form. Ivysaur is the second Pokémon in the National Pokédex. Ivysaur grows a flower on its back as it evolves, and the flower provides it with energy through photosynthesis.
Ivysaur can have one of two Abilities: Overgrow, which increases the power of Ivysaur’s Grass-type moves by 1.5× during harsh sunlight; or Chlorophyll, which doubles Ivysaur’s Speed stat during harsh sunlight but prevents Ivysaur from being put to sleep by other Pokémon’s moves.
Ivysaur can use Hidden Power, Sunny Day, Protect, Safeguard, Sludge Bomb, Roar and Substitute regardless of its Ability. Ivysaur is exclusive to Poké Ball Plus in Sword & Shield. Ivysaur was designed by Ken Sugimori. Ivysaur first appeared in the anime in Island of the Giant Pokémon.
In the main series, Ivysaur is mostly used as starter Pokémon by Ash Ketchum and Misty Waterflower. There is a bulb on Ivysaur’s back that supports leaves; as Ivysaur grows older, this bulb will grow larger and begin to flower.
Ivysaur’s bulb also stores energy so that it may survive for extended periods of time without sunlight. The flower on Ivysaur’s back wilts if Ivysaur becomes fatigued or stressed.
