Celtic culture is primarily connected with Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, as anyone who has ever wandered around a Renaissance fair while munching on a turkey leg and sipping overpriced ale would know. Although they later wreaked havoc in other areas during the Iron and Medieval Ages, the Celts were predominantly from central Europe.

Celtic people developed as a large number of different clans, having a range of shared rites, languages, and customs, particularly in the art of battle, while not being a unique racial or genetic group.

In other words, they frightened the Romans. Later, Hollywood would make them legendary. But regrettably, distinguishing between fact and fiction can be more complex than a middle-aged actor doing his own stunts (or a convincing Scottish accent for that matter).

These several tribes are believed to have acquired the name Celts from the Greek term Keltoi (Latin variant: Celtae). Gauls, Walhs, Picts, and Galatians are among alternative names. However, the proud Romans disparagingly referred to them as “barbarians” and made overstated reports that they charged into battle intoxicated and naked. But to be fair, drunk and naked brawling remains a time-honored tradition and is usually the highlight of most episodes of COPS.
