Horsea is a small, blue seahorse-like Pokémon. It has a long snout and a single fin on its back. ‘Horsea’ comes from ‘horse’ and ‘seahorse’. Its Japanese name, ‘Tattu’, may come from ‘Tatsu’, Japanese for ‘dragon’. Horsea is capable of squirting water from its mouth like a fountain.

This Pokémon also has the ability to spray ink to escape from predators. Horsea lives in the shallows of warm seas. It is capable of swimming faster than the eye can follow and sometimes drags unwary prey into the depths with it. Horsea is very loyal to the trainers it trusts.

Horsea evolves into Seadra starting at level 32, which evolves into Kingdra when exposed to a Dragon Scale. All Horsea are born with the ability Sniper, but it can only have Damp as an Ability if it is born Frozen Horsea gained Damp as an Ability in Generation IV onwards as it was no longer a Water-type in Generation III. Horsea is also used in races and competitions.

Horsea is one of the few Pokémon that can learn the move Aqua Jet. This move allows Horsea to attack first even if it is not faster than its opponent. Horsea is also one of the few Pokémon that can learn the move smokescreen. This move lowers the accuracy of opponents’ attacks.
