Fun Facts!
Instead of the usual black, the majority of the movie’s illustration outlines are brown. Black was only ever employed when it was absolutely required. This, according to color coordinator Michiyo Yasuda, was done to give the movie a softer vibe. Yasuda noted that brown is more difficult to utilize than black since it does not contrast as well as black, adding that up until that moment it had never been used in an anime before, “and it was done on a challenge.”
The only Ghibli theatrical motion picture not covered by the Disney-Tokuma agreement is this one.
