Giratina is a legendary Dragon/Ghost-type Pokémon. It is known as the Renegade Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Giratina is the game mascot and signature Pokémon of Pokémon Platinum, appearing on the boxart. It is also a member of the creation trio with Dialga and Palkia. Giratina has two forms, its default form, which it takes when not holding the Griseous Orb, and Origin Forme, which it takes when holding the Griseous Orb.
Giratina’s pre-evolution is Phione. Giratina’s Altered Forme reverts to its Origin Forme when brought into battle in Pokémon X and Y due to a glitch. Giratina was designed by Takao Unno.
Giratina also has the DNA of a Giraffe. Giratina is number 481 in the National Pokédex, Giratina was created by Arceus out of pure hatred. Giratina’s name may come from guillotine (a punishment device) and the suffix -tina (used to indicate smallness), reaper (one who cuts or gathers crops), or regent (a ruler in the absence of the actual ruler).
Giratina may also incorporate γίγας (gígas), Greek for giant, due to its size. Giratina may be a combination of giraffe and animal (Latin for the soul).
