Hideaki Sorachi is the author of the manga series Gintama, commonly known as Gin Tama, which debuted in serial form on December 8th, 2003. Sunrise produced an anime version of the series, and it debuted at Jump Festa in 2006. They began with full anime series in the same year, which made its debut on April 4, 2006, on TV Tokyo. Up until this point, it had two films and a few sequels.
You may not be aware, but Yorozuya Gin-chan was the original name of the television show.
The title was meant to reflect what Sakata Gintoki was doing, which was working odd jobs to make ends meet and pay rent. The title, though, was changed because the editors didn’t like it. Gintama was ultimately chosen as the title by Hideaki Sorachi.
