Did you know that Arcee, the first female Transformer, wasn’t featured in The Transformers: The Movie from 1986? Technically, Minerva (aka Minelba), a pilot-driven robot named for her schoolgirl pilot, holds that distinction because an Arcee toy wasn’t created until 2014. Minerva was developed for the 1988 Transformers Super-God Masterforce, a Japan-only Transformers franchise with a unique continuity distinct from the animated television series produced for the US, a separation that started with the 1987 Transformers: Headmasters.
The human Minerva mated with a Transtector robot from the planet Master to become an Autobot Headmaster. As well as being able to transform into the head of her Transtector, a large robot that can change into a medical rescue vehicle, Minerva has the power to summon an armored suit that improves her physical strength, speed, and reflexes. For the Japanese toy market, Minerva has been produced in a variety of iterations since 1988.
