Here are some fun facts about Donphan that Trainers may not know!

Donphan (Japanese: ドンファン Donfan) is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves from Phanpy starting at level 25. Donphan was officially revealed in the May 1997 issue of CoroCoro, along with Slowking and Ampharos.

Donphan is a large, gray elephant-like Pokémon with blue eyes and trunk, and tusks made of crystallized quartz. Donphan’s hide is thick and tough, providing good protection against attacks. Donphan is very strong and can easily uproot trees with their trunks to use as weapons.

They also roll on the ground to build up speed, then charge at opponents with great force. Donphan lives in herds on grassy plains. When it rolls on the ground, it sucks up blades of grass and stores them in its trunk to eat later.

Donphan is gentle and loving with those it trusts but can be fiercely protective of its territory. Although Donphan appears to be based on an African elephant, its blue eyes may be based on Indian elephants, which are known for their blue-gray skin tone. The word “don” means “trunk” in Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan.

Donphan’s number in the National Pokédex (232) may be a reference to the circumference of the Earth (in kilometers), which is about 24,000 miles. Donphan’s Japanese name, Donfan (ドンファン), may also be a reference to this fact.
