Dinosaur Fun Facts:

  • Megalosaurus was the first dinosaur to be given a name. In 1824, Reverend William Buckland gave it a name. Megalosaurus, which translates to “great lizard,” measured around 9 meters long and 3 meters high.
  • Ferdinand Vandiveer Hayden made the first dinosaur fossil discovery in North America in 1854 while he was looking into the upper Missouri River. He found a tiny group of teeth that Joseph Leidy eventually identified as belonging to Trachodon, Troodon, and Deinodon in 1856.
  • In Britain, 108 different dinosaur species have so far been found. As a “land bridge” connecting North America and Eurasia during much of the Mesozoic Era, Britain was a significant region. It turned into a hub for the migration and evolution of dinosaurs. Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Neovenator, Eotyrannus, and Cetiosaurus are examples of British dinosaurs. The Megalosaurus skeleton and the Iguanodon skull are on display at the dinosaur museum.
