On the evening of April 18, 1775, a borrowed horse acted as his trustworthy mount. It seems improbable that Revere had a horse at the time, and he would not have been able to take it across the Charles River to leave Boston. It’s thought that the horse, which the British later seized, was a loan from Charlestown merchant John Larkin. The missing mare’s name was Brown Beauty, per a 1930 publication on the Larkin family genealogy.
