Cofagrigus is a dual-type Ghost/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It is known as the Coffin Pokémon. Cofagrigus is a large, pale Pokémon that somewhat resembles a tapir or mummy.
Cofagrigus bodies are wrapped in gray linen bandages. Its head is similar to that of an Egyptian sarcophagus, with a small pair of yellow eyes on either side. Cofagrigus’s body is mostly grey with purple spots. Its body is digitigrade, and it has two small arms with three digits on each hand.
Cofagrigus has no eyes, although it does have red pupils. On its head is a yellow band with three thin red stripes. Cofagrigus can open its mouth exceptionally wide, and inside its mouth is a dark space.
Cofagrigus’s body is actually a sarcophagus; Cofagrigus wallows around in the sand to look like one. Cofagrigus’s body is actually hollow, and it uses this to trap and devour unlucky prey. Cofagrigus is able to materialize spirits by devouring them.
These Pokémon are said to be created when people’s resentment coalesces. Cofagrigus is usually found in dark, abandoned places such as castles or ruins. Cofagrigus hunt for prey by disguising themselves as coffins in graveyards.
When an unsuspecting person leans on the coffin, Cofagrigus will snap shut, entombing the victim inside its body where they will be slowly devoured for over 1,000 years. Cofagrigus is able to curse people with merely a glance from their pupils. According to ancient myths, this Pokémon trapped people who tried to rob graves, which led people to believe Cofagrigus were guardian deities of graveyards.
Cofagrigus evolves from Yamask starting at level 34. It can have the ability Mummy or the ability Weak Armor.
