A hefty draft horse breed called a Clydesdale was developed in Lanarkshire, Scotland, close to the River Clyde. By breeding a Flemish stallion with local mares around the year 1715, the breed was enhanced; Shire blood was eventually incorporated. Around 1842, Clydesdales were imported to North America, but they never gained popularity as draft horses there.
Clydesdales typically give birth to one foal a year. Clydesdales’ foals are typically 3.5 feet (1.1 meters) and 125 pounds at birth. (57 kg). Female and male horses are referred to as fillies and colts, respectively.
