Did you know that the Christmas Tree Display in Rockefeller Center first started in 1931 as a publicity stunt by the Allied Masonic Degrees?
The publicity company estimated that 250,000 people would come to see the tree – but instead, nearly a quarter of a million people showed up on Christmas Eve alone! Throughout its history, the Christmas Tree Display has featured natural trees as well as artificial ones. In fact, one of its tallest trees was a 100-foot artificial Norway Spruce constructed out of iron and chicken wire.
Another fun fact: while most Christmas tree lights are white or multicolored, the Christmas Tree Display at Rockefeller Center has exclusively featured red and green lights since 1985. So if you’re feeling inspired by all these fun facts, why not break out your colored pencils and try your hand at our Christmas Tree Display coloring page? Who knows – maybe someday we’ll feature your creation at the Christmas Tree Display itself. Happy coloring!
