Cardcaptors is a Japanese anime television series directed by Kunihiko Cardы and produced by Madhouse. The show aired on TV Tokyo from April 7, 2000, to June 30, 2000, totaling 31 episodes. Cardcaptors follows the adventures of Sakura Kinomoto, a ten-year-old girl who discovers a magical book in her basement that releases a set of magical cards into the world. She must recapture these cards with the help of her friend Madison Taylor and revert them back to their sealed state in order to prevent disaster from striking the world.
Along the way, Sakura must also deal with her crush on her older brother’s best friend, Syaoran Li. The series was licensed for an English-language release by Nelvana in 2001 and aired on Kids’ WB in the United States from June 2, 2001, to December 14, 2001. Cardcaptors was one of the first anime series to be successfully adapted for a Western audience. The show was popular with younger viewers and received generally positive reviews from critics.
