DID YOU KNOW…
Cain and Abel, the brothers from the Bible, have become well-known figures over time and their story is widely popular across religions. Cain and Abel are even mentioned in texts outside of Christianity or Jewish history, like Islamic literature. Cain can be seen as a representation of human evil for some people; however, Cain is actually not portrayed as all bad in the Bible. Cain does repent for his mistake at the end of the story and God ultimately gives him protection.
Similarly, Abel is known as a representation of human goodness but there is more complexity to this character if you look deeper into his story. Although Cain murdered Abel in a fit of rage, they still loved each other— after murdering Abel, Cain mourns deeply at his brother’s death and when asked where Abel is God Cain simply responds “I do not know”. There’s much more depth to Cain and Abel than what meets the eye making it an interesting biblical account to dive into!
