Aerodactyl was one of the first pokemon to be designed, way back in the early days of Pokemon development. Its original name was “Ptera”, and its design was inspired by the prehistoric flying reptile known as Pteranodon. Aerodactyl’s name comes from two words – “aero”, meaning air or sky, and “daktylos”, meaning finger or toe. This refers to Aerodactyl’s long, wing-like digits.
